Operation Recruiter Appreciation Day - May 19, 2007

We have created a thank you card for our local military recruiters to give them recognition for their work at a time when leftist "peace" people are vandalizing offices and driving recruiters off campuses.  GOE has organized Operation Recruiter Appreciation day on Armed Services Day, May 19th, one week before a large "support the troops" rally is held in Washington, DC.

Recognizing that networking with like-minded organizations and people is a key element in developing a grassroots movement, Judy Warner and Ann Corcoran of the Maryland Chapter of Vigilant Freedom are also coordinators for local Gathering of Eagles activity.  More on GOE at www.gatheringofeagles.org The relationship is a natural fit and the cause is one we feel passionately about.

 A strategy of the left is to paint themselves as the peace-loving good guys and our side as "evil hate mongers".  We should seek opportunities wherever we can to be the good guys - in other words, we need to grab the white hat at every opportunity. This is one such opportunity.

We were invited to set up a table at this Lincoln Day Dinner and asked people to sign the thank you card, but it also gave us the opening to discuss related topics.  We had other literature on the table including Spencer's pamphlet "Jihad" and our action packet which includes our book, website and blog lists about radical Islam. And, BTW, in his speech former Governor Ehrlich  was very direct and forceful about the worldwide terrorism threat we face from Islamists.   I was wondering if he was positioning himself as a VP candidate!

The March 17 Gathering of Eagles Rally

We had a great day in Washington at the March 17 Gathering of Eagles counter-demonstration to ANSWER's anti-war march on the Pentagon.
 
It was better than our wildest expectations!   Thousands and thousands of veterans and troop supporters came from all over the country.    It was awe-inspiring to see hundreds, if not thousands, of American flags waving in the wind on a bitter cold day.  Six of us went from Washington County, and we all agreed we would go again in a heartbeat if called to do so.

The mainstream media completely missed the significance of the day. This is the first time in history the communist- organized peace marchers met their match in DC.   The Park Service reported to our organizers that our numbers dwarfed theirs by 3 to 1, however the mainstream media (MSM) had it the other way around.  ANSWER was predicting they would have 100,000 but I would be surprised if the number was even 5000.
 
The ANSWER marchers were a wild assortment of people.  They were anti-war, pro open borders, pro Palestine, pro Che,  costumed old hippies and really freaky looking kids... some beating on makeshift drums.   Our side, including many veterans in biker jackets, looked pretty tough and lined the route shouting at the marchers being escorted by the Park Police.   I thought many of the marchers had looks of shock on their faces, probably the first time they ever had a good look at the "silent" majority.
 
Our little group from Washington County happened to be right on the curb at the beginning of the march so we had lots of photos taken of us and Australian TV interviewed one of our guys, German radio interviewed Judy and many others filmed us too ....  our signs said ...  "Win the war or lose to Jihad" so I wouldn't be surprised if Al Jazeera was filming us too!
 

When we left we noticed all the trash, muddy signs and broken  fences in the marchers staging area.  By comparison our area had no trash, just flags still flying.

Ten things we can do as Americans to work for our continued security and freedom
 

1. Find ways to support and defend our military men and women.
 

2. Read and study the issues involved in national and homeland security.
 

3. Learn about Islam. Be familiar with the terminology and the goals of radical Islam.
 

4. Speak up.  Talk to friends, family, and others in your community about the issues. Do not be afraid.  Your opponents may try to intimidate you, but you have the facts on your side.
 

5. Tell elected officials and your local media what you think about the issues.
 

6. Be vigilant in your community and call authorities including Homeland Security if you see something that concerns you.
 

7. Develop a personal/family security plan.
 

8. Watch for and speak up about politically correct indoctrination in the public schools.
 

9. Be involved in combating illegal immigration.
 

10.  Form groups with like-minded people in your community either by starting new groups or working within existing groups such as churches and service organizations. And take opportunities to share information between groups.
